Shakin'

So last Friday we went to musical at the New Theatre Restaurant in Overland Park. With dinner and a show who can go wrong with those two combinations. The was All Shook Up and was absolutely fabulous and nothing to what I was expecting. Then again, I had no idea what to expect. Here a blurb from the website about the show:

"This musical comedy combines all-time favorite Elvis Presley songs with a surefire rock ‘n’ roll story, ALL SHOOK UP tells the romantic tale of how a young girl’s dream comes true when a guitar-playin’ Harley ridin’ mystery man blows into town and turns it upside down with his hip-swivelin’, lip-curlin’ and sexy song singin’."

We went with a couple of friends of our which always makes the evening better and Lisa really seemed to enjoy herself. During the play people are reminded to turn of their cell phones or at least put them on mute. Of course during the show a phone goes off at the table next to ours. It rings and rings and rings and then rings some more. The irritating part of this was not necessarily the phone but the man whose talking about the phone ringing and laughing about it. HELLO! Mute the phone and shut up about it. Okay, other than that yes the evening was nice.

An Evening in the Park

A few Friday’s ago we went to go see the Sam Bush band perform in one of the summer concerts in Olathe. Sam is a legendary Bluegrass player and has a unique sound/style about him. We had a great time and from the sounds of the many other audience members, they did as well. One of the greatest things is that the weather cooperated with us. We had nice summer breeze with a slight overcast sky to help keep the temperatures down.

Home Improvements

Lisa and I have been hitting our gym pretty consistently for the past few weeks. At least, as consistent as I can with my evening class, homework, studying and basic life necessities such as work, housework, etc. I’m looking forward to my next few weeks off in between classes to get caught up on things around the house.

On that note, Lisa has decided to renovate her upstairs bathroom but has ran into a snag with the sub flooring. She has come across some mildew between the floor layers. It shouldn’t be too difficult to tear up the old floor and replace it. I think once we get through the first few stages of the project, the rest should roll right along. Now really, how often does that happen though?

High School Graduations

Kyle walking back after he received his diploma

Justin on his way back

I thought I'd post pics of the boys on their big day. I am so very proud of them both!

Boot Camp Recruit

So Kyle is in San Diego, CA this summer. He decided to enlist with the Marines back in January of this year. He has been gone since June 16 with a graduation date of September 12th. He has been writing to everybody, to which I am very proud of. I just sent him out a letter today trying to figure out travel plans for all involved. So we'll see where this gets me as far as reservations go.
Below is a picture of Kyle and our neighbor. We didn't realize has is an ex-Marine. All these years of living next to him and we never knew, hmmm...

The little Chiminea that could

So it looks like this weekend will be one of those chiminea weekends. We had its inaugural lighting over the 4th of July while my family was up. I would really like to thank dad for bringing up all that firewood (that needed to be cut and split)! We got it chopped up and split in record time. One thing I didn't account for was amount of smoke it produced. Thankfully all the windows in the house were closed.
